Answering False claims about Nutfah stage

There are many non- Muslim objectors and rejecters to the concept of  scientific miraculous description of embryological and medical facts in the Qura'n and the Sunnah . There are , unfortunately , some Muslims who are advocates for secularism , supporting this view , although there is no a good reason for that . The scientific progress in these fields proves the exact match between the scientific data reported in the Qura'n and Sunnah since the seventh century , by either explicit or tacit knowledge , with facts proven in modern sciences. Isn't this a strong evidence for the real prophet hood of our Sir Mohammad , peace and blessings be upon him , and that he is a messenger of Allah , the al- mighty , to all people in all times ??

Regarding , the term nutfah used in Qura'n , some claim that Muslims describe it to be the genital fluid and that the meaning of nutfah as described in Qura'n to show the origin of life is the semen . They claim that this description of Qura'n is not new  and the ejaculation of semen during the sexual intercourse is a well-known event that can be watched  directly by all people all over the world and at all times . Moreover , this description in Qura'n is identical to the seminal fluid in man , some translators of the meaning of terms in Qura'n translate nutfah according to this view into the sperm , and , as they claim , this description means that human creation occurs from male only which is a  great scientific fault of Qura'n!!

To answer this claim ,  it is important to say at first that , the incorrect translation or the misconception of the expressions of Qura'n can not be considered as faults in Qura'n . As regard the meaning of nutfah , it dose not mean a genital fluid nor the sperm . If the ejaculation of semen by male during the sexual intercourse is a direct observation that can be seen by naked eye to all people at all times , then does the ejection of ovum from the ovary at the time of ovulation is also a well known event , does this event can be seen by naked eye or it needs very experienced scientist to document it ??

The term nutfah , as it was explained by prophet Mohammad himself , peace and blessings be upon him , from his haith , when he was asked about creation of children by one of Jews : " O, Jew , it is created from both ; from a man nutfah and from a woman nutfah " ( This hadith was narrated in Musnad Ahmad, volume 1, page 465) . To explain  this hadith , it is clear from the answer of prophet Mohammad , peace and blessings be upon him , that nutfah is the part by which the man  shares in creation of a child and also nutfah is the part by which the woman shares in this creation .

Now , after science have proven that creation is through fusion of a part from the man ( that is the sperm) and a part from the woman (that is the ovum) , Isn't this the man nutfah and the woman nutfah given in the previous hadith without any contradiction ?? , Thus , it is clear that , the term nutfah is applicable to either the sperm or the ovum respectively . More supporting evidence from Qura'n , chapter 32( As-sajda ) ; verse 08 :  " Then He made his progeny of an extract , of a little weak fluid " , this verse means that the progeny of Adam are created from an extract  , that means the best of that fluid . Thus , Qura'n , reported that only the best of the little weak fluid is used for creation of man .  Isn't this mean that this fluid contains the primary elements required to create man ??  , although  the sperm and ovum are not mentioned in Qura'n , aren't them the primary elements required for man creation , that are extracted from this fluid ??

Despite Qura'n does not mention in the previous , to whom belongs this fluid , it could be understood that this fluid originates from both sexes , not only one of them , from another verse of Qura'n ; chapter 49 (Al-Hujraat)  ; verse 13 : " O mankind ! We created you from a male and a female .." , this verse mean that Allah Have created mankind from both sexes , the male and female , thus no one can say that Qura'n report that creation is from male only , simply verses of Qura'n explain each other .

In another hadith of Prophet Mohammad , He said : " Not from all the fluid , the child will form , and if Allah Wants to create any thing , nothing can prevent Him to do so .." (this is a part of a long Hadith narrated by Muslim , 2: 1064 ) , the meaning is clear as not from all the fluid means from only a little  part of it  , as we see there is no contradiction between Qura'n and Sunnah (hadith) on one side and the modern scientific facts regarding creation of man , on the other side , moreover,  science always proves the truth of the data reported in Qura'n and sunnah since the seventh century.

As regard , the following verses from Qura'n , chapter 53 (AnNjm) ; verses 45 & 45 :  " And that He did create the two sexes  the male and female * from nutfah when it is poured forth ” , again some claim that the verse is scientifically incorrect , in that it means creation of both male and female occurs from male .  We have seen above how this claim is false , we clarified  above the meaning of nutfah and showed  that both Qura'n and Sunnah described that creation occurs from both man and woman .  Regarding the previous two verse  "And that He did create the two sexes  the male and female * from nutfah when it is poured forth ”   ,  as a Muslim and as  an embryologist   , this verse , on contrary to their claim , can be considered a scientific miracle of Qura'n , because it contains an   indication that man is responsible for the sex of the coming offspring .   To explain the miraculous aspect of the above verses  , we can say that adding the adjective "poured forth " to the word nutfah  , restricts the meaning of nutfah  to the male nutfah , and it is well known now that sperms of man are 2 types (depending upon the type of sex chromosomes present) : Y sperm  and X sperm , and sex of offspring  is determined  according to the  sperm type that fertilizes the ovum (that is of only one type ;  with one X) ;  fertilization with Y sperm produces male child XY and fertilization with X sperm produces female child XX.

In essence , the previous verses of Qura'n provided an evidence to the role of male nutfah in determination of the sex of the offspring , and the facts that sperms are 2 types described above was not known except several centuries after revelation. Any how , this does not prevent the idea that both male and female share in sex determination and I have presented a scientific research  in the 8th conference of scientific miracles of Qura'n and Sunnah  that was held on Kuwait , 2006 , under the title "The shared responsibility betweem male and female in determination of the baby sex" , for more details you go to a summary of this in this website , through this link  or the original research is in Arabic and to review go to the website of the International Commission on Scientific Signs in the Qura'n and the Sunnah in Holy Makkah , through the following link: http://www.nooran.org/con8/Research/51.htm

As regard  the interpretation of the term nutfah amshaj  that appeared in the Qura'n chapter 76 (Al-Insan ); verse 2 : " We created man from nutfah amshaj (a drop of  mingled fluid ) in order to try him...”  , some  objectors refuse the meaning given by Muslims to be the fertilized ovum or the zygote in embryology terms , claiming that Qura'n do not mention sperm , ovum nor fertilized ovum , also there is no evidence in Qura'n that  nutfah amshaj  is implanted in the uterus !!

To answer this claim , let us think quietly together , in Arabic language , the word can have several correct meaning and one meaning of nutfah  is a small drop , and we have explained above the nutfah and  concluded  its meaning to be either the sperm or the ovum as  tacitly appreciated  from studying verses of Qura'n and prophet's ahadith ( pleural of hadith) . The term  amshaj  comes as an adjective to nutfah  in the verse " We created man from nutfah amshaj  (a drop of  mingled fluid) , to  explain its  meaning in this verse , one can say it denotes the fertilized ovum or the zygote , that appears as a small drop (0.1-0.2 mm) in shape and contains 2 nuclei ( one from the sperm and the other from the ovum ) , thus it is a mixture of 2 nuclei from 2 gametes and this description can comprise the mixing of chromosomes from the father and mother . Moreover , the fertilized ovum or  zygote , even after the beginning of division into the smaller cells or the blastomeres , it remains in the size of a small drop .Thus , it is now clear that the term  nutfah amshaj used by  Qura'n to describe this early stage of embryo is  truly expressive and very accurate from the scientific point of view.

Concerning the claim that Qura'n does not mention in any verse,  the implantation of the fertilized ovum in the uterus , we can say that Qura'n used a polite expression to explain the sexual relation between man and woman in chapter 2 (Al-Baqara) ; verse 223 : "Your wives are a tilth for you , so approach your tilth when or how you like " , and the verse simulate  the sexual relation between wives and their husbands ( to produce a baby)  to the cultivation of the soil  and the implantation of   the seed therein. The verses of Qura'n explain each other , in other wards if the meaning is not obvious in one verse , its meaning becomes clear in another one , and if we return back to the verse explained above ;  "We created man from nutfah amshaj (a drop of  mingled fluid ).."  , we now appreciate that it means creation occurs from the fertilized ovum or zygote . In another verse of Qura'n ;  chapter 23 (Al-Mumenoon) ; verse 13 : Then We placed him as  nutfah (a drop of  mingled fluid )  in a place of settlement , firmly -fixed " ,  the meaning is that Allah , the Al-mighty , Makes the nutfah  (from which creation occurs) to settle    in a safe firmly-fixed place (that is the uterus).  Moreover , another supporting verse of Qura'n ; chapter 22 (Al-Hajj) ; verse 5 :  " And We cause what We will to remain in the wombs for an appointed time " , the meaning is that Allah , the Al-mighty , Keeps this nutfah in the uterus for a definite time (that represents the time of pregnancy).

In modern embryology , the term " implantation" , which is used to describe embedding of the fertilized ovum into the endometrium of the uterus , is exactly the same as "AL-harth"   used by Qura'n in  the verse "Your wives are a tilth unto you ..." , indicating that females are the places that receive the male nutfah  and process it into nutfah amshaj for child creation similar to the soil in receiving seeds to grow them . The term "implantation" is translated into  Arabic as  "al-ghars" that  is very similar in meaning to "al-harth" used in the Qura'n , thus , if we say that the  meaning of  the verse "Your wives are a tilth unto you ..."  is applicable to implantation of nutfah amshaj  in the uterus , does any  one consider our appreciation of the verse to be wrong?? or this will be a natural development of of our understanding of the verse ?? , the verses of Qura'n are clear and contains no faults at all , simply because they are sent from Allah, the-All-knowing , who Knows every thing , what we know  and what we do not know..

Comparing with embryological information  , the Quran'ic descriptions of the developmental and structural changes that occur during  the nutfah stage , from the beginning to the end, are scientifically accurate and  clearly  descriptive of  events . This description of the early stages of human development is virtually impossible without a microscope due to the minute size of the nutfah (0.1-0.2 mm) . Moreover, there was no any embryonic knowledge at all and it was believed at that time , that the human individual was created from the menstrual blood. This belief remained popular until the 18th century when both the sperm and the ovum were found to be necessary for conception. Thus, several centuries later, science came to understand the facts of embryology in a manner consistent with the statements in the Qura'n and Hadith and this proves that the Qura'n and Sunnah antedated  the science and provided a miraculous description of the early embryonic stages...
