The  interpretation of the verse “AsSolb Watta ra’ep” in Qura’n and its relation to  “Al- ma’ ad-dafiq” , was puzzling ancient and current  Muslim scholars and commentators as no one was able to provide a clear and convincing explanation . Although ancient scholars have described that AI-maa’ addafiq (water gushing forth or drop emitted or a gushing fluid ) arises from an area that lies between the back bone of the man (his back) and the place of a necklace on the chest of the woman ( her chest bones or her ribs) , the most accepted interpretation by most commentators is that this gushing fluid originates from an area that lies between the back bone and chest bones or ribs in both of them . What is truth in this issue??

Before starting the explanation of the verse (Ayah) : ” Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs ”       (Surah At-Tariq , 86: Ayat 6, 7), it is better to review some scientific data that were not absolutely known at the time of revlation of  Qur’anand were  only discovered several centuries later. This fact alone answers those who claim that Qura’n had conveyed these scientific data from previous knowledge , simply because there were not any preceding knowledge at all about these facts !!!

These facts , now are well-established  , include  :

-the man fluid contains the sperms and the corresponding fluid in woman is the fluid that emitted from the ovary carrying the ovum at ovulation.

-The sperms  are produced in the testis and the ova are produced in the ovaries.

-the testes and ovaries originate during fetal life , in the same region that lie between the backbone    ( vertebral column ) and the ribs ( the eleventh and the twelfth ) , close to the developing kidney.

-Both organs  are structurally-similar in their early stages and  in the definitive stages of their development , they descend down , where the ovaries enter  the pelvis and the testes reach the scrotum .

-Their blood vessels , nerves and lymphatics are dragged  with them during their descent .  The origin of these vessels and nerves remains high up , close to the kidney area, indicating the primary site of development of both organs.

Depending upon the previous data , there will be no place  for false claim that the origin of  “AI-maa’ addafiq”  (water gushing forth or drop emitted or a gushing fluid )  from an area which lies between the back bone and chest bone is a scientific error of Qura’n . Qura’n is revealed by The Creator Who Knows His creatures and how they were created, thus it could not contain any scientific errors  . On contrary , Qura’n  was amazing in describing this scientific fact and reporting that the organs producing AI-maa’ addafiq (water gushing forth or a gushing fluid ) , the testes and ovaries have  their origin in the area lying between the back- bone and the ribs , before their separation and descent to final position.

According to the previous interpretation , the starting point of the progeny of Adam lies in the back area ( The Back bone ) , and this view is supported by Qura’n in another verse ; Allah – the Almighty- said : ” And when your Lord drew forth from the Children of Adam – from their backs – their descendants, and made them bear witness against their own souls : , (saying): “Am I not your Lord?”- They said: “Yes! We bear witness!….” ( Surah Al-Aarf , 7: Ayah 172 ), moreover , Allah , the Al-mihgty , in describing prohibited women for marriage said : ”….The wives of your sons who are proceeding from your own backs ….” (Surah Al-Nisa , 4: Ayat 23).   Thus , it is clear that this accurate description of the origin of mankind indicates that Qura’n is the word of Allah that was revealed to our sir Muhammad , peace and blessings be upon him , to prove his prophethood and man has not been created in vain , Allah , the Al-mighty said : ”Did you then think that We had created you in vain and that you would not be brought back to Us ” (Surah Al-Mumenoon , 23: Ayat 115).

Another important scientific fact related to this subject , that clearly shows the meticulous arrangement, the perfect planning of functions  , is the different final distination of the gonads (testes and ovaries) during their descent from their site of creation (beside the developing kidney) in the final part of their development  : The ovraies enter the pelvis , whereas the testes come out of abdominal cavity , through the inguinal canals , to reach the scrotum at the time of birth. Science have shown the importance of this anatomical difference :

1-The ovaries become nearer to the tubes and this facillitates the enterance  of the extruded ova into the uterine tubes , which are the passages leading into the cavity of the uterus  into which the ova are to be implanted .

2- the testes , the factories of sperms , should have lower temperature than that of the body , as modern science states that the optimum temperature for spermatogenesis is about 36ºC , thus the best place for testes must be outside the abdomen to avoid the high intra-abdominal temperature which interferes with the normal spermatogenesis. The scrotum , in adult male , moves up and down , through involuntary muscular contraction to adjust the temperature of the testes to be ideal for spermatogenesis . This is mechanism is like an automatic  thermostate , where the testes come close the abdomen in case of lower temperatures and vice versa .

There is an evidence that high abdominal temperature endanger the function of the testes ,  if one or both  testes fail to reach the scrotum ,  and the descent was arrested , a condition called undescended testis or cryptorchism , the affected  individual , if not rapidly discovered and treated, the undescended testis will change into a fibrous tissue causing infertility and it may undergo malignant transformation.

Who could be behind this meticulous arrangement, the perfect planning of functions of organs inside our body ?? Is it only chance ? Nature ? Or .. it is the Power of the Creator , the Wise , the All-Knowing , whose Knowledge encompasses every thing and plans the functions and assignment of each system and every organ in perfect harmony!!!

Now , to answer those who are rejecting  the previous explanation and consider it as a scientific error of Qura’n , by claimingthat man is the one who has an emitted genital fluid ( the semen is gushing forth at sexual stimulation ) , an act that can be noticed by naked eye to all people allover time and this fluid arises in the testis and so human creation only occurs from the man genital fluid . Thus , Qura’n has added no new data and conveyed the same wrong scientific information prevailing at revelation time that man is created from the semen!!

The logic interpretation of the verse ”Let man but think from what he is created! He is created from water gushing forth or drop emitted or a gushing fluid . Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs “       (Surah At-Tariq , 86: Ayat 5,6, 7) ,that does not contradict modern sciences,  is that human creation does not occur from the man gushing fluid only (semen) , but  from the gushing fluids, that carry components of human creation, of both man and woman . Any human being has been created from a sperm from the testis of the father and an ovum from the ovary of the mother , the testis that secrete this sperm was in the back of the father when he was an embryo in the uterus of his mother , similarly the ovary that secreted  the ovum was also in the back of the mother when she was an embryo in the uterus of her mother .

Thus, every human being results from union of a sperm from the father and an ovum from the mother , although both are originating in the testis and ovary respectively , their origin were initially in the backs of their parents , exactly in the area between the backbone (back) and the ribs (chest bones) when the parents themselves were embryos…

This should not be considered as an abuse to the meaning of the verse or a crooked interpretation of it , for example ; suppose , some one asked:  what substance is used to make a loaf of bread ? …What would be the correct answer ?? Does the answer is thewheat or the flour ? ?

The near origin of the bread that could be seen by every one is the flour but the far origin from which the flour was produced is the wheat … It is clear that , both answers are correct …The same is applied to our verse : Does man is created from the sperm and ovum arising in the testis and ovaries?? or from the testis and ovaries that were placed in the area between the backbone and ribs of the parent ??

Whent this sequence is followed back to include all our ancestors , it would be found that  all mankind have been originated from the same area of Adam and Ave. Thus , the verse ”Let man but think from what he is created * Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs ”       (Surah At-Tariq , 86: Ayat 6, 7) , is giving the story of creation of mankind. Isn’t this a miraculous and eloquence expression that could not be given  except by Allah , the Almighty , the Great Creator!!!
